Govt moving ahead with idea of ‘Make in India, Make for World’, says PM Modi at WEF – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that India is walking ahead with the idea of “Make in India, Make for World”, thereby promoting self-reliance across sectors.
Addressing the World Economic Forum ‘s (WEF) Davos Agenda summit virtually, PM Modi spoke on ‘State of the World’ and said that India will continue with its reforms to enable its vision of sustainable economic growth.
Here are the highlights of PM Modi’s address:
‘India has given bouquet of hope to world’
PM Modi said that India, which is celebrating its 75th year of Independence, has given a “bouquet of hope” to the world.
He congratulated the people and healthcare workers on administering 156 crore doses of Covid vaccine in past one year. India marked one year of its vaccination drive on January 16.
He said that this “bouquet of hope” comprises India’s unwavering trust in democracy.
“In this bouquet, we Indians have an unwavering trust in our democracy, we have the technology to empower the 21st century with the temperament and talent of our people,” he said.
‘Best time to invest in India’
PM Modi reiterated that this is the best time to invest in India as it focuses on encouraging ease of doing business and reduce government involvement in business.
He added that the entrepreneurship spirit that Indians have and the ability to adopt new technology, can give new energy to each of our global partners.
India is moving ahead with the mantra of “Make in India” and “Make for the World”, PM Modi said.
‘Green, clean and sustainable growth’
The Prime Minister said that the government is making policies and taking decisions regarding the present as well as the goals of the next 25 years.
In this period, India has set the goals of high growth, saturation of welfare and wellness, he added.
“This period of growth will also be green, it will also be clean, it will also be sustainable, it will also be reliable,” he noted.
Besides, he also emphasised that even at a time when India is facing the third wave of Covid cases, the government is maintaining caution while ensuring the pace of economic growth retains.
‘India following the path of self-reliance’
The Prime Minister said that India’s focus is not only on easing the processes, but also on incentivizing investment and production.
With this approach, today, $26 billion production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes have been implemented in 14 sectors.
‘Most successful digital platform’
India has the world’s largest, safe and successful digital payments platform.
In December alone, 4.4 billion transactions have taken place in India through Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the PM highlighted.
‘All countries must work together on cryptocurrency’
Technology attached behind crypto makes it impossible for any one country to manage all challenges related with this digital currency, PM Modi said.
“The kind of technology it is associated with, the decisions taken by a single country will be insufficient to deal with its challenges. We have to have a similar mindset,” he said.
In addition, he noted that with the change in global order, the challenges that people face as a global family are also changing.
Hence, he called for synchronised and collective action by every country and global agency to counter these.
The five-day event at Davos began on Monday and is being held virtually for the 2nd year in a row due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event will witness participation of top industry leaders, international organisations and civil society, who will deliberate on critical challenges being faced by the world today and discuss how to address them in the coming days.
